Sushi Rice Instructions (Sushi Kit for Two)

What You’ll Use From the Kit (For Sushi Rice)

From your Svenfish Sushi Kit:

  • 0.75 lb (1.5 cups) sushi rice

  • Svenfish Seasoned Rice Vinegar (use 2 oz / ¼ cup for this batch)

You’ll need at home:

  • 2 cups (475 mL) water

  • Medium pot with lid or rice cooker

  • Strainer/colander (for rinsing)

  • Wide bowl (for mixing)

  • Rice paddle or large spoon (wood or plastic)

Directions:

  1. Rinse the rice
    Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. Strain well.

  2. Cook
    Add rice + 2 cups (475 mL) water to a pot.
    Bring to a boil → cover → reduce to low and cook 15 minutes.

  3. Rest
    Turn off heat and let rest 10 minutes (keep covered).

  4. Season (key step)
    Transfer hot rice to a wide bowl. Slowly pour in 2 oz (¼ cup) Svenfish Seasoned Rice Vinegar while mixing with a rice paddle or large spoon using gentle “cutting” + “folding” motions (don’t mash).

  5. Cool before rolling
    Let rice cool to room temperature (about 10–15 minutes) before making rolls.
